LOOKING BACK

School internship was a time for me to learn to unlearn and to relearn the teaching strategies. As a part of the B. Ed program we had to do many practical works. One of them was the value education class it means including in the children a sense of humanism, a deep concern for the wellbeing of others and the nation. The topics selected were sharing mentality and optimism. the classes were well attended by the students. Another practical work what to do an action research in the mathematics classes the topic of my action research was to study the causes for academic failure in mathematics in high school classes it was concluded that the group work and using multiple intelligence-based lessons could be used to improve mathematical content knowledge of the students. I was very happy an enlightened to do the work as it was a personal asset for my teaching career. Case studies are in depth investigations single person I selected a ninth standard student as she was noted for her disruptive behaviour in class. The case study helped me to observe when an individual and to make desirable changes in her behaviour. The psychology project was conducted for measuring procrastination levels in students. It analysed the factors affecting the procrastination levels in students. Wit its help I could take ample preventive steps in the character of the individual observed. It was a pleasure for me to explore the mathematical club activities of the school. mathematics exhibitions what contacted every year and the students had worked very well so that they could come up with new ideas as well as innovative methods to present them. It was tough to select the best ones out of then as they all stood excellent. the chart   drawing competition was also arranged, and the student attentively participated in it. Another interesting work what's to create innovative charts and mathematical models a short workshop was arranged for us to get to know about the procedure I could prepare innovative charts on balancing operations and Pythagorean spiral.  still model was off string art and blocking model working model was a Pythagorean board game. Both the charts and the models were very useful during the teaching process.

Self-assessment was an incredible method to see how much the teaching methods are efficient. It helped me to understand that the teaching strategies adopted were quite good and could even supplement the learning. Diagnostic test was conducted for the ninth standard students and it was indeed tough o prepare the test. It helped me to identify the students who were experiencing the learning difficulties and to help in better instruction. Achievement test was designed for the ninth standard students to test their knowledge in topics learned. It helped me to know the achievement level of students and the various teaching strategies that must be planned according to the results. The unit plan and unit test preparation were a tough job. It helped me to have an overall clear picture of the chapter. It also helped me to check proficiency attained in each topic of the unit.  Peer evaluation was an interesting part of the internship programme. I could do the evaluation of Ema Maria and Renjana Thampy. Their teaching aids were outstanding, and the teaching strategies vividly changed according to the topics covered. I could adopt different strategies that were used by them.
The evaluation of artistic talents of students was another interesting practical work during the school internship. I was so excited to watch the programmes and evaluate them. The events were Malayalam recitation and Naadan paattu. The richness of Indian culture was introduced to the students through the class on different art forms in India.  Both students and I were amazed to realize the richness of our culture. Also, several activities were organized to conscientise the cultural heritage of India. Activities like quizzes on Gandhiji and honoring the elderly on International day of older people were some of them. It made sure that the days of cultural importance should be highlighted, and the student should know its importance.

Chapters on universe new  numbers –operations on new numbers, value of new numbers etc were introduced. Though the topic were confusing and it took much time to explain the concept to students. Problems on new numbers were rather easy for the students to grasp. And I was feeling confident to teach the topics even though the topic was hard to pitch in. The next chapter Circles included topics like chord, length of a chord, circumcircle etc. the leson was planned well and the topics were introduced with much precision and care. Since the topics were tough I was perplexed on how to proceed. The new chapter Parallel lines was simple compared to previous ones. They were able to realise the different components of the subject were interrelated through this chapter. It really helped them to think on the vastness of the topic. The chapter Similar Triangles was another challenge. But the students were enthusiastic in doing the problems and the concepts introduced seemed to be easy for them. The Polynomials chapter were clear and simple and the classes were well planned and well received. The innovative lesson plans included Concept map, parallel lines, properties of polygons through origami and math drama on value of numerals. It assured and did get the full attention of the class. Since the teaching strategies were creative and new, students participated very well in the classes.
